Country Seeks Nigerian Investors

Niger Republic has canvassed for Nigerian investors to take advantage of the business opportunities and favourable investment in that country, saying intra-African trade is one of the ways to break the circle of underdevelopment of Africa.
Speaking with journalists on the occasion of Niger's Reconciliation Day, the country's Ambassador to Nigeria, Moussa Elhadji Ibrahim, said the 1500 km border between Nigeria and his country provides an advantage that Nigerian industrialists can tap into.
"Nigerian industrialists can site industries in our side of the border where there is constant power supply and market their manufactures in Niger and Nigeria," he said, noting that such development will mean cheaper manufactured goods for his country "while Nigeria will enjoy repatriated profits and cheaper manufactures as it is cheaper to import from Niger which is a few kilometers away than from Europe or elsewhere which are thousands of miles away."
The Ambassador said the fact that the naira is widely accepted as a legal tender in Niger is also an added advantage since there would be no need for worries about Dollars to do business in his country, stressing that Nigeria is the first market for Niger.
He said his country has experienced peace and stability since the end of the Touareg rebellion in 1995 when reconciliation of the feuding parties was consummated through the burning of arms, while calling for the assistance of Nigeria to help combat what he called pockets of drug banditry witnessed in some parts of the country and along border areas.
